Curiosity creates change

Thoughtful therapy for individuals and couples in Montclair, New Jersey

A Different Way of Thinking About Change

Most of us spend our lives trying to change our behavior before we understand what’s driving it.

We tell ourselves to communicate better, be less anxious, stop overthinking, set better boundaries, or finally break old relationship patterns. But lasting change rarely comes from focusing on the behavior alone—it begins with becoming more curious about what’s underneath it.

My approach invites you to slow down, notice your patterns, and become curious about the emotional processes shaping them.

The more we understand our patterns, the more agency we have.

Hi, I’m Maddie

an approach rooted in curiosity

I’ve always been fascinated by people—what shapes us, why we respond the way we do, and how our relationships influence the lives we create. That curiosity continues to shape the way I approach my work today.

I believe meaningful change begins with understanding rather than judgment. Together, we get curious about the patterns shaping your life, make room for greater acceptance of what is, and create more choice in how you respond.

Therapy isn’t about becoming a different version of yourself. It’s about understanding yourself more fully so you can move through your life and relationships with greater awareness and intention.

People come to therapy for many reasons: anxiety, relationship challenges, parenting, family conflict, life transitions, grief, or simply wanting to understand themselves more deeply.

Whatever brings you here, we’ll start there.

Choose Your Path

  • Individual Therapy

A space to get curious about what’s shaping the way you think, feel, and relate to others. By understanding your patterns more clearly, you create more choice in how you respond.

  • Couples Therapy

Couples often repeat the same conflicts without fully understanding why. We look beneath the argument to understand the patterns between you—and create more choice in how you respond to one another.

  • Parent Coaching

The way we were parented shapes how we parent. Together, we look at the patterns and reactivity you bring into parenting so you can better understand what’s driving your responses and parent with greater intention.

Principles Behind The Work

_______

Curiosity Over Judgment

Change begins with curiosity, not judgment. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong or what needs fixing, we start by understanding and accepting what’s already there.

_______

PATTERNS HAVE MEANING

We look at the patterns shaping how you think, feel, and relate to others—patterns that often make more sense when we understand where they come from.

_______

AWARENESS CREATES CHOICE

Understanding what drives our reactions gives us greater freedom in how we respond.

_______

UNDERSTANDING CREATES CHANGE

Lasting change isn’t about becoming someone different. It grows from understanding yourself more fully, strengthening your relationships, and moving through life with greater intention.

The goal isn't to become someone different — it's to understand yourself more fully, strengthen your relationships, and move through life with greater intention.

How We Work Together

Therapy works best as a partnership. You bring your experiences, questions, and perspective, and together we get curious about what’s happening and what may be shaping it. We’ll decide what feels most important to focus on, guided by your goals and priorities.

My role isn’t to tell you what to do, but to ask thoughtful questions, offer perspective, and help you see yourself and your relationships more clearly.

You may know exactly what brings you here—or simply know that something feels ready to change.
