Understand What’s Happening Between You
Couples often repeat the same conflicts without fully understanding why. Therapy offers a chance to slow down, look beneath the argument, and understand the patterns each person brings into the relationship, creating more choice in how you respond to one another.
Most couples don't come to therapy because they've stopped caring.
They come because the same disagreements keep resurfacing, or because the connection they once had feels harder to find.
In couples therapy, I focus less on the content of the conflict than on the process underneath it—how each person responds when tension rises, where those responses come from, and how they shape what happens between you.
Through a family-systems lens, we look at the patterns each partner brings into the relationship, many of which are rooted in family of origin.
The goal isn’t simply to resolve the argument in front of us, but to understand the process that keeps bringing you back to it.
As those patterns become clearer, so does your ability to respond to each other with more understanding and intention.
Where Couples Therapy Can Help
Communication Challenges
Understand what happens between you during difficult conversations and the patterns that can make it harder to hear and understand one another.
Recurring Conflict
Look beneath recurring disagreements to understand what keeps pulling you into the same cycle.
Emotional Disconnection
Explore what may be contributing to distance, loneliness, or changes in intimacy within the relationship.
Trust and Repair
Understand what has disrupted trust and what each person needs in order to determine how to move forward.
Life Transitions
Navigate the shifts that come with marriage, parenthood, career changes, relocation, or blended family dynamics.
Outside Pressures
Notice how stress from work, family, finances, or other outside relationships can affect what happens between you.
What to Expect
-

Understand What Brings You In
We start with your relationship history, what’s happening between you now, and what each of you hopes to better understand or change.
-

Identify the Patterns
Together, we look at the patterns that emerge between you—particularly during moments of conflict, distance, or heightened emotion—and begin to understand where they come from.
-

Understand Your Part
Rather than focusing on changing your partner, the work becomes about recognizing your own responses, reactivity, and role in the patterns between you.
-

Respond Differently
As awareness grows, so does the ability to step out of familiar patterns and make more intentional choices in how you communicate, respond, and relate to one another.
What Can Shift
Greater awareness of your own patterns and reactivity
More choice in how you respond during conflict
Clearer, more thoughtful communication
A better understanding of yourself and your partner
Greater ability to stay connected while navigating differences
